Retirement for KiwiRail Key Account Executive Wayne Watkin
February 2010
KiwiRail sales and marketing general manager Leonard Sampson says recently-retired KiwiRail key account executive Wayne Watkin will be “sorely missed”.
Mr Watkin entered retirement just prior to Christmas, ending a career of over 30 years in the freight industry.
It is understood Mr Watkin spent the past 16 of those years with rail -- including the last year working directly for Mr Sampson -- and prior to that had been Freightways Group operations manager and held roles with other freight forwarders.
“Wayne was absolutely committed to what he did and consistently went the ‘extra mile’ for his customers,” says Mr Sampson.
“He was fundamentally responsible for the domestic freight-forwarding market and managed that portfolio exceptionally well.
“Operationally he was very sound because of his background. He had a real understanding of the domestic freight-forwarding industry and was a well-known character.
“He understood the industry, understood the key drivers and certainly understood the rail business and how we could help our customers.
“Wayne has had a long and illustrious career and he will be sorely missed from the industry and KiwiRail.”
The Cubic Transport team have always found Wayne to be extremely professional and a pleasure to deal with, and we wish him all the best for his retirement.
